On Monday, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, as students targeted her office. Hasina had first insisted protests were the work of opposition parties, then blamed terrorists, and she and her family called on security forces to prevent her ouster. But underlying youth unemployment saw protests about a job-reservation scheme morph into a direct demand for her removal.

Being born in South Africa is simply not reason enough to be classified as a South African national with SA citizenship. Many individuals think that by being born in South Africa, a child is automatically entitled to South African citizenship. BEING BORN IN A COUNTRY However, this is not the case. Merely being born in a country does not entitle an individual to nationality of the country concerned. If this was the case, it would be highly likely that people would be travelling to all sorts of places they like to give birth to children so that the child may claim the nationality of those countries.

The new consulate in Johannesburg will issue passports, e-passports, and birth certificates for Zimbabweans residing in the country. Zimbabweans living in South Africa now have a new consulate. Image: canva Zimbabwean consulate pops up A new Zimbabwean consulate opened its door on Thursday, 25 July, and will be the place for Zimbabweans living in South Africa to apply for passports, including e-passports, and birth certificates. According to IOL, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Frederick Makamure Shava said that the new consulate would enable Zimbabweans residing in South Africa to acquire proper documentation.

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber was responding to written questions by MPs about the temporary visa concession for foreigners as well as the impact of wealthy foreigners on the rental housing market. CAPE TOWN - Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber said there were measures in place to prevent the abuse of immigration policies for foreigners. Schreiber also said that the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was probing thousands of visas issued due to the alleged corrupt activities contained in the Lubisi Report, which exposed serious fraud in the department.
