The issue of illegal immigration in South Africa might never be solved in the next 100 years to come. While hardworking South African citizens are crying out to the government to solve illegal immigration, some greedy South Africans are busy making millions of rands by selling passports to illegal immigrants.
According to reports, four Home Affairs officers have been convicted and sentenced by the White River Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga for fraud and corruption in connection with the issuing of South African passports to illegal foreign nationals from Bangladesh and Pakistan. These people betrayed their fellow countrymen just for money, without thinking about the consequences of their actions. Corruption has eaten deep into the Home Affairs. Normally selling of passports is R20,000 per person, and it is widely practiced in almost every home affairs office, be it skipping the que (around R300), by passing appointments around R500 etc. Many government workers have sold their integrity to illegal immigrants.
Home affairs officials working with security guards at umgeni road in durban make good money on the side. This is why illegal immigrants can never be completely chased out of South Africa. Even after the Zimbabwean exemption permits expires, more Zimbabweans will still be smuggled into South Africa by South Africans working for Home Affairs.
